Replacing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes in Tecan’s office facilities

The Challenge

As a leading provider of laboratory and life science technology, Tecan AG places the highest demands on reliability, light quality and energy efficiency. The outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes led to high energy costs, limited sustainability, and increased maintenance, posing a risk to the continuous use and comfort of office workplaces.

The Solution – LED Retrofit with GLT LED TUBE

In the office and production areas of Tecan AG in Männedorf (Switzerland), 4,800 T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes were replaced with GLT LED TUBES “Made in Germany” using a 1:1 retrofit process in accordance with IEC/EN 62776. The installation was carried out internally during ongoing operations – quickly, safely, and without any production interruptions.

The existing luminaires and fixtures were retained and upgraded, while the old ballasts were bypassed. The ballast of the GLT LED TUBE is fully integrated into the tube – allowing future replacements to be performed easily by staff without electrical expertise.

In addition to significantly reducing energy costs, the new lighting impressed with its uniform, flicker-free light quality, ensuring precise color rendering and consistent brightness across both office and production areas.

Thanks to the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), the environmental impact of the lighting solution can be transparently verified.
