The Challenge
The existing lighting system at the hospital was based on outdated T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes. These resulted in high energy costs, increasing maintenance requirements and contained mercury-based substances. As a result, they no longer met today’s requirements for hygiene, operational safety, energy efficiency and patient comfort.
A comprehensive upgrade had to be implemented without major structural modifications and without disrupting ongoing hospital operations.
The Solution – LED Retrofit with the GLT LED TUBE
Evangelische Kliniken Essen-Mitte opted for a standards-compliant LED retrofit using the GLT LED TUBE. The existing, standardised luminaires and continuous lighting systems were fully retained. As part of a 1:1 replacement in accordance with IEC/EN 62776, the old fluorescent tubes were replaced with durable, hygienic and energy-efficient GLT LED TUBES.
The replacement was carried out section by section and without disruption during daily hospital operations – with no structural alterations, no downtime and no restrictions for staff or patients.
